Richard Owen is interested in the power of science, technologies and innovation to create futures in profound and uncertain ways, how we can engage as a society with those futures in the making, and how we can take responsibility for them. He researches the politics, risks, ethics and governance of innovation and new technologies in society, with a particular emphasis on concepts of responsible innovation. His research sits at the intersection of innovation governance and science and technology studies as a critical, interdisciplinary scholar. Richard is a Leadership Team member and co-Investigator on the EPSRC-funded Cybersecurity Centre for Doctoral Training. He is also a co-Investigator on the ESRC-funded ECOSCIM project researching citizen participation in smart city development.
