Anri van der Spuy is a PhD researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She is working on a REPHRAIN project that addresses the global issue of online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA), with a focus on experiences in the majority world.
Anri also works for GIZ’s DataCipation programme, which collaborates with the African Union Commission and its member states about datafication and digitisation priorities, policies, and activities in Africa. She has consulted on a range of Internet and digital policy challenges to various UN and intergovernmental agencies; for Internet-focused and related entities; and for global or regional NGOs specialising in communications governance challenges. An admitted attorney with expertise in media law, Anri previously received an MSc degree (distinction) in Media and Communications Governance from LSE. In her native South Africa, she completed an MPhil in Media, Democracy and Development (cum laude), a BPhil (honours) in Journalism, and an LLB degree at the University of Stellenbosch.
