The main goal of MetaSafeChild is to make Social Virtual Reality safer for children. The project aims to a) assess the potential harms faced by children and adolescents in social Virtual Reality (VR) platforms, and b) develop user-centered moderation tools for in-VR conflicts. This will be done by focusing on understanding threats, exploring potential mitigations and safeguards, and engaging with stakeholders to improve safety standards in social VR. The interdisciplinary research objectives include surveying experienced harms, exploring the design space of metaversal safeguards, prototyping and evaluating safety-enhancing technologies, and providing feedback to industry, government, and third sector.
